Yes you may have a website up but it doesn't bring you income as soon as you had hoped. Depending on your topic you can add a shop page to your site
and add affiliate products to your site. Many people use these affiliate programs to generate income without having to buy and sell products. Check
out affiliate programs that have products that you can benefit from.

That's what we hope.
Yes you are right it is absolutely not enough today to just set up a website and expect that you are going to get a lot of visitors. Even if you do
all the important stuff, SEO, key word search, meta tags, page rankings etc., etc. there are still no guarantees that you will get many visitors to
your website let alone any business.
However the more that you know the better chance you have of being successful. So if there is anything that we can assist you with then post away.
